What is IRDAI?

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) is the statutory regulator of India's insurance sector, established under the IRDAI Act, 1999. It oversees insurers, brokers, agents, and other intermediaries, sets industry regulations, and safeguards policyholder interests.

Every entity legally selling insurance in India must be licensed by IRDAI, making IRDAI registration a key indicator of legitimacy and consumer protection.

What is an IRDAI-Licensed Insurance Broker in India?

An insurance broker is an intermediary licensed by IRDAI to compare and sell insurance products from multiple insurance companies on behalf of the buyer. Unlike an insurance agent, who is tied to a single insurer and represents that insurer's interests, a licensed broker is legally obligated to act in the interest of the policyholder.

Expert Guidance at Purchase

A broker compares policies across multiple insurers, evaluates your specific requirements, and recommends coverage that best matches your needs, budget, and risk profile.

Ongoing Coverage Reviews

As your personal or business circumstances evolve, a broker reviews your coverage, identifies protection gaps, and recommends updates before risks emerge.

Dedicated Claims Support

When a claim arises, a broker assists with documentation, coordinates with the insurer, tracks progress, and advocates for fair claim resolution.

What Does a Direct Broker Licence Mean?

A Direct Broker licence is issued by IRDAI to an IRDAI-approved insurance broker in India. This allows DigiSafe to arrange insurance policies between customers and multiple insurance companies across life and general insurance categories. Unlike tied or corporate agents, a Direct Broker is not restricted to a single insurer and can compare options across the market to recommend suitable coverage.

The licence covers products such as health, motor, property, crop, livestock, travel, liability, and life insurance, enabling unbiased advice based on customer needs rather than insurer affiliations.

Why IRDAI Licensing Matters to You as a Buyer

Purchasing insurance through an unlicensed or unverified intermediary carries serious financial and legal risk. IRDAI licensing provides several protections that are not available when buying from an unregistered source.
